Picture space Volume 1
April 10, 2000-14:00 hours, Eastern Standard Time.

On both hemispheres of the Earth, people outside are starring at the sky in amazement at a giant image forming of some alien being. The exact same image forms on the northern and southern hemispheres so that most people on the planet can see it. Nodding to say hello, the strange blue and yellow colored creature begins to speak in a strong and low-pitched voice. "I am Trilan of the Colzin, a race of beings from the galaxy that you call Andromeda, which is about 2.7 million of your light years from the Milky Way. It is imperative that we warn you about an impending invasion to your galaxy from a race of beings known as the Tarx. The Colzin believe that the Tarx are from a galaxy that you call Triangulum, which is about 3 million light-years from here. Triangulum, a fairly sizable spiral galaxy, is about 250,000 light years from Andromeda, which is the largest galaxy in this galaxy cluster that you call the Local Group. About 500 of your years ago, the Tarx invaded my galaxy, which we had colonized over 1,000 years. Over the last 500 years, the Tarx have been nearly impossible to stop. They have conquered world after world with us resisting their every move. A serious threat to every race that they come into contact with, the Tarx are fairly close to completely controlling Andromeda. They completely dominate Triangulum and our attempts to engage them there have proved extremely futile. The Tarx also control numerous smaller galaxies in that whole region of space.

Your Milky Way is the second largest galaxy in the Local Group, but is by far the most massive. The Milky Way has more mass than the rest of the Local Group combined; this is the reason that the Tarx have an extreme interest in spreading their endless campaign of expansionism to this area of space. Make no mistake, these creatures are totally bent on seizing your galaxy and will annihilate anything that stands in their way, or that they feel will pose any type of even a minor inconvenience to them. Traveling at about 400 light years per day, it has taken 20 years for an advance fleet of Tarx ships to cross the immense space between Triangulum and your galaxy. They have just arrived within the past few Earth days and have been setting up their systems in several key places just outside the perimeter of the Milky Way.

Let me explain their intentions. Inside their ships, they have brought these relatively small vortex generators, which are about 40-foot wide, star shaped devices. 8 of the generators, which are powered by small black holes, make up a vortex box. As you can imagine, the generators are set up in a box shaped pattern with each one acting as a point of that box. Each generator is placed a few hundred feet from the other ones. Acting in unison, the generators create a vortex that allows a vessel to travel directly and instantly from another generated vortex, no matter where that other vortex is. The Colzin were able to hijack some of their generators in Andromeda and we teleported to several points along the outskirts of the Milky Way. Fortunately, the generators use an immense amount of energy and can only operate for an hour or so; after that, they need about 14 days to regenerate. The generators keep a little reserve power for their shields, which we have not yet managed to penetrate. My fleet of a few hundred ships, with me in command, has been assigned to this particular region of space, which the Tarx have termed the Seventh Division; they hope to divide your galaxy into eight divisions in total. If they have their way, they will inevitably build 8 giant vortex generators at even intervals along a circumference just outside the Milky Way's boundaries. They would have two more giant generators placed about 10,000 light years above and below the galactic equatorial plane in a location that would put them in the exact center of the galaxy.

The smaller vortexes are only big enough to allow their fighter and builder ships to pass through. Fortunately, they can not bring other vortex generators through a vortex, as they become damaged; they have tried bringing them through before and failed for reasons that we do not fully understand. The generators have only been around for about 40 years and since we can't get through their shielding, we can't fully study them. In any event, if they gain a foothold, they will start tearing up planets and suns in an effort to build their giant vortex generators, which will allow them to send in major reinforcements of all kinds. Left unchecked, they will put themselves into a position of invulnerability; if that happens, all may be lost. The extinction of my race, your race, and many others is at stake. Losing is not an option; the revolution must continue. I realize that your race might not trust my race or me. The only reassurances that I can give you are, basically, that we could easily have conquered your world without warning. I would not be wasting my time with these stories if they were not true. Your race is not the only intelligent species in the Milky Way, or the Seventh Division; I have numerous other races to warn. It is my desperate hope that I will succeed in getting most of the races in the Milky Way to understand the gravity of everyone's situation; the success of stopping the Tarx depends upon it. The sooner we stop them, the better. Our calculations prove that every day that they are not stopped benefits them and aids their cause. They would put their mechanisms in place day after day and inevitably would become unstoppable.

Your race seems to have had its share of problems, but you also have great promise. There is one among you named David Ash that we have found capable of wearing the Kivon; the most advanced device in the Local Group. It has taken considerable labor, time, and a great deal of resources to develop and manufacture each Kivon, which the wearer places near the brain, in your case on the forehead. The small, translucent devices, made out of cutting edge designer atomic structures, are self-adhering and will pick up the wearer's brain waves and translate them into actions. A Kivon can tap into zero point energy, the energy of the universe around us, and do very interesting things depending upon the power and vision of the wearer's mind. They are extremely difficult to control and we were immensely lucky and happy to find someone in your race that was capable of handling it. There are only a couple of individuals in my race that could wear one; they are needed in Andromeda. While a Kivon does not lend the wearer infinite power by any stretch of the imagination, it is an immensely formidable entity if used well; however, if used poorly, it can be very harmful and destructive. Understandably, the Tarx have been desperately trying to stop us from making these devises, which we invented only very recently in our long history of technology, which spans a few thousand years. We are hoping that the Kivon devices will help us turn the tide against the Tarx. This may be our last great hope. I will teleport the device to David now; we must go and warn other races. Remember that the Tarx will send all forms of attackers at you; look to David for protection. Good bye for now." The two images disappear from each hemisphere and everyone seems to be completely dazed after what just transpired.
