Episode 20Running down the narrow metallic-looking halls of an underground base, Logan and his best friend Tom Veker come to a sudden stop. He brought Tom here for protection and begins to explain about the slim clearance card he's holding near a small red box-like machine.
Logan: This is neat. It's a magnetic card that has my facial pattern and the thermal signature of the unique heat patterns under my face stored on it. The machine scans the card then scans my face with a camera and thermal sensors. Software quickly compares my facial heat and features to what's on the card. Short of someone or something compromising the database, this is completely foolproof.
They begin to walk briskly down the hall toward a large room as Logan continues talking and Tom listens intently with an intrigued expression on his face.
Logan: We're going to put these in every ATM. You'll be able to buy a train ticket at one of those ATM's and it will electronically record the info onto the card. Having sensors onboard, the train will not only do the facial comparisons but will also accept your ticket. We're also working on luggage that would have an electronic skin, which would also hold your facial pattern info. The scanners would be able to tell if someone stole that luggage and the central database would alert you. With air travel, luggage would never get lost again as it would all be accounted for. We're also working on making the whole sensing system cheap, in effect, making it possible for the lock on your luggage itself capable of only opening for you.
While Tom nods approvingly, his expression changes to shock as they enter a big dimly lit white-colored room filled with soldiers strapped into large black chairs abounding with virtual reality equipment. Dark fighter pilot-like helmets beam various images of the outside world directly onto the soldiers pupils via low-powered lasers. A huge video screen against the back wall's broadcasting a brilliant view of David and his sister in the field.
As the first alien creature can be seen being teleported away by Taschin, and the other monsters begin to move toward the two, various shinny gray metallic objects begin to rapidly descend on the area.
Logan: Virtual Telekinesis.
Startled, Tom looks back at Logan.
Tom: What!
Logan: Chip's implanted in those soldiers heads send signals to the main computer, which remotely controls the various flying machinery via satellite. Each soldier can control many of these antimatter powered flying devices as easily as he can control his own body. In fact, we've taken each soldier's ability to physically move away, so he could concentrate on his virtual environment. The devices he can control are shown to him in red and all the other devices are shown to him in yellow so there's no confusion.
Tom: That's extreme.
Logan: Cutting edge.
Tom seems mesmerized by the huge video scene in front of him. The first UEF flying weapons reach the ground monsters, which have closed to within 30 feet of David and Ariana.
Out of desperation, David focuses his attention on causing the dirt around him to move. A funnel cloud of dust and small debris begins to swirl rapidly. The cloud quickly expands to cover a forty-foot area as Dave begins to travel upward with his sister. Ground monsters are trying to shield their eyes and are coming under attack from the UEF equipment. While the cloud continues to expand, two-foot-wide spinning balls with long serrated spikes jutting out of them begin to hack at the beasts from the air as they recoil in pain. The screams of the creatures is deafening and David's extremely nervous as he desperately holds on to Ariana amidst their climb. Through the rapidly swirling dust, the flying monsters are closing in and taking swipes at the two. Barely holding them off, David realizes that a 3 cubic foot dark-colored object's teleported out of one of the Auto Builder ships, ending up on the floor of the Grand Canyon. He's immediately able to take control of one of those alien vehicles and commands it in his direction. Rapidly approaching, the craft becomes visible and is brought to a stop about a thousand feet above their heads. Dave's desperately trying to navigate his way through an incredible pack of creatures to get to the ship. Teeth are gnashing at them and missing by inches as David barely holds them off. He can feel the tearing of flesh on his remaining arm and leg and notices some attacks are getting through to Ariana; she's screaming loudly and moving her body about violently.
